If you’ve walked through any town in the Midwest lately, you’ve almost certainly seen a lot of college aged children playing a sport that look like the bean sack sport you might have memorized as a child. Wherever and whoever invented it, it’s a lot of fun which is why it’s picked up so much steam in the past few years. It’s a sport that everyone can watch and enjoy. With Cornhole, you can chat with people who are playing or you can hold a discussion with people that are just standing next to the planks. So it makes for a vast festive game.
So what do you need to play this game? Well, not much! The first thing you require is a set of cornhole boards. The regulation planks measure four feet by two feet or you can go with a hatch backing style plank, which are three feet by two feet. Once you have your boards, you can get the bags. The cornhole carriers are 6×6″ bags that weigh up 14-16 ounces and are made out of duck canvas.
Durability is the main key factor with bags so if you are going to make your own, you need to make sure that you are using the top quality fabric and strand. Otherwise, you’ll be sorry because the carriers won’t take much wear and tear. You can also add in some other cornhole accessories like a score tower or a light in case you wanted to play at night, but the cornhole bags and planks are the necessary ones.
